How This Episode Was Made
A note on the format, because it matters this time.
This episode was pre-recorded. On the afternoon of June 13, Tuur opened the mainstage at Groovy Tunes Festival, and the set was captured live, straight from the stage. No overdubs, no studio re-takes, just the performance as it happened in front of the crowd. That recording was then edited into the shape you hear, and broadcast the same evening on RTV Maastricht and 3Heuvelland.
So what reaches your speakers is a live set that travelled, in a single day, from the open-air stage at Pietersheim to the evening airwaves of the border region. The energy of the afternoon, preserved and delivered to listeners that same night. It is the closest The Sessions has ever come to dissolving the line between the live experience and the broadcast. The two have become, for one episode, the same thing.

Thank you to Groovy Tunes Festival, and to Bjorn and Youri of Groovy Tunes Sound System, for the opportunity to open the mainstage. This was not a small thing. To be given the first slot on a festival’s main stage is to be trusted with the tone of the entire day: you set the energy that everyone who follows will build on. Bjorn and Youri are known for meticulous curation and for believing in the next generation of artists, and that belief is exactly what made this moment possible.
Opening a festival in your own home region, at a venue that carries this much history, in front of a crowd that understands the culture: this is the kind of moment that shapes a career. The momentum that started at Oranjenacht in April was real, and Groovy Tunes is the proof.
The Set: Live From the Mainstage
What you hear in this episode is the set as it was played. House and Tech House, built for an open-air afternoon, designed to open a stage and lift a crowd. This is not a curated mix assembled in a studio. It is a performance: choices made in real time, reading the room, building the energy track by track.
In the spirit of The Sessions, the records deserve a few words: where they come from, why they work, what they say about the kind of artist Tuur is becoming.
The Headliner: Guy Gerber, “What To Do”
The record at the heart of this set is “What To Do” by Guy Gerber, the Israeli DJ, producer and label boss behind RUMORS. It first appeared in 2018 as the title track of the What To Do EP, and it is exactly the kind of record that rewards a listener who pays attention.
This is not a track built on a single obvious hook. It is built on atmosphere. Gerber layers cymbal-claps, isolated percussion and groove-driven vocals into something deep and cosmic, a production that breathes rather than shouts. There is a sample lineage underneath it too, drawing on Colonel Abrams’ “Trapped,” a piece of house history that connects Gerber’s contemporary, hypnotic groove back to the roots of the genre. Old and new, woven together: the same principle that runs through everything The Sessions has ever championed.
The track also has a second life that turned it into a festival landmark. The &ME remix reshaped “What To Do” into a melodic house and techno anthem, a slow-burning build that became a staple of mainstage sets and earned support from some of the biggest names in the scene. Whichever version moves through this set, the DNA is the same: patience, atmosphere, and a groove that pulls a crowd in rather than pushing them around.
In the context of an opening slot, the choice says something about Tuur’s instincts. Opening a mainstage is not about going straight for the biggest drop. It is about setting a tone, building a room, giving the day somewhere to go. “What To Do” is a record that understands exactly that. It is hypnotic without being passive, deep without losing momentum. It is the sound of a DJ who knows that the first hour of a festival is about architecture, not fireworks, and that the most lasting moments are the ones you build toward, not the ones you blow open at the start.
That is the through-line from episode 003 to here. Van Helden’s “I Want Your Soul” was about emotional architecture; Gerber’s “What To Do” is about atmospheric architecture. Different records, same understanding: a set is something you construct, not just a sequence of songs you play.
From Oranjenacht to Groovy Tunes: The Arc Closes
Episode 003 ended looking forward. It spoke about momentum, about a network that believed in the progression, about a path forward that was becoming clear. Groovy Tunes was named as the next platform, the confirmation that Oranjenacht was not a one-off.
This episode is that confirmation, made audible.
There is something fitting about the fact that the show’s fourth episode is built entirely from a live performance. The Sessions began as a curator’s show, a place to broadcast taste and selection. Over four episodes it has become something more autobiographical: a chronicle of an artist moving through a scene in real time. Episode 003 made the show reflective. Episode 004 makes it live. The radio show and the festival stage, once parallel tracks, are now the same recording.
This is how a scene documents itself. Not after the fact, in retrospect, but as it happens: the afternoon’s performance becoming the evening’s broadcast, the moment becoming the record of the moment.
The Broader Picture
The Sessions has always argued that electronic music exists because of relationships: people who believe in each other, advocate for each other, show up for each other. Groovy Tunes is another chapter in exactly that story. Bjorn and Youri did not have to hand a young DJ the opening of their mainstage. They chose to. And that choice, like the Gold Ticket at Oranjenacht, like the advocacy of the team before it, is another node in the network that carries an artist forward.

The momentum from Oranjenacht to Groovy Tunes does not stop here; it carries straight into Parkcity.
But the foundation is set. Network by network, moment by moment, broadcast by broadcast, the story keeps building.
