The Sessions 5: More to Life
hosted by Tuur
Episode 005 | July 2026
After four episodes of build, of momentum, of one platform leading to the next, episode 005 does something the show has not done before. It slows down.
There is no guest DJ this month and no interview. There is no festival recording, no mainstage, no crowd. What there is instead is an hour built around a single idea, one that has been sitting underneath this show since the beginning without ever being said out loud: there is more to life than work and sleep.
Hence the title. More to Life.
The Idea
The last two episodes were about ascent. Oranjenacht into Groovy Tunes, a network of people opening doors, an artist moving forward through a scene. All of that is real and none of it is being walked back. But there is a version of that story where the only thing that matters is the next booking, the next stage, the next step up, and that version misses something.
Sometimes the right move is not to push harder. It is to take a step back and look at what you already have.
That is what this hour is about. Not slowing down because the momentum ran out, but slowing down on purpose, because knowing when to ease off is part of the craft. A DJ who only knows one gear is not really a DJ. Neither is a person.
Why Ibiza
The sound that carries this idea is Ibiza, and not by accident.
Ibiza has two reputations. One is the loud one, the superclubs and the peak-time hysteria. The other is the one that actually built the island’s musical identity: the terrace, the late afternoon, the sun that stays up far longer than it has any right to, music that exists to hold a moment rather than detonate it. Balearic in the original sense. Warmth, patience, space.
That second Ibiza is the one this episode borrows from. The sun stays high, so the relaxed material stays in the foreground, and the set only starts to firm up as the evening comes in.
How the Hour is Built
The structure is simple and deliberate.
It opens soft. Slow Ibiza material, wide and unhurried, the kind of record that asks nothing of the listener except that they stay. From there the hour moves gradually. As the evening arrives the tempo tightens, the drums come forward, and the energy lifts. Not into a peak-time set, but into something with more drive than where it started.
Same principle as a festival opening slot, only inverted. On the Groovy Tunes mainstage the job was to build a room for other people to fill. Here the job is to build a room for one listener to sit in for an hour and come out of it slightly lighter than they went in.
And running through the whole thing: funky disco grooves. Real ones, the kind you recognise within four bars whether or not you can name them. Disco is the ancestor of everything this show plays, and an hour about enjoying your life is exactly the right place to let that lineage show.
The Record: Boris Dlugosch, “Keep Pushin'”
The anchor of this episode is a German one. Boris Dlugosch, out of Hamburg, and “Keep Pushin'”.
Dlugosch is one of the producers who proved that European house did not have to imitate Chicago or New York to sit alongside them. “Keep Pushin'”, released in the mid nineties under the Booom! banner, is filter house at its most generous: a disco loop worked until it gleams, a vocal that does not so much sing at you as pull you along, and a groove that simply refuses to get tired. Push it, push it on. It has been rediscovered by every generation of DJs since, which is the only real test a record ever has to pass.
There is a small joke in putting it in this episode, and it is intentional. An hour about not pushing so hard, anchored by a record called “Keep Pushin'”. But the joke resolves, because the track never sounds like effort. It sounds like ease. It pushes the way a warm evening pushes, which is to say it does not push at all, it just keeps going and you go with it.
That is the whole thesis of the episode in a single record.
No Guest, and That is the Point
Episode 004 had no guest either, because the episode was a live set. This one has no guest for a different reason. An hour about stepping back is not an hour that needs another voice in the room. It needs air.
The Sessions has always been a show about relationships, about the people who show up for each other and carry a scene forward. That does not stop being true in a month where nobody else is on the mic. Some months the show documents a network. This month it documents a mood.
The Season Ahead
The plan from here is to hold this temperature. A relaxed thread running through the programme into the heart of summer, sun-up material with the evening lift built in, an hour that fits the season it is broadcast in.
There will be more stages, more bookings, more moments worth chronicling, and the show will chronicle them. But it will do it at the pace of a summer rather than the pace of a career.
Because there is more to life. That is the point.
